Ontario's Education System


Students must complete a minimum of 30 credits from G9 to G12 to graduate from an Ontario high school, among which 18 credits are mandatory, and 12 are selective. Requirements for the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) are as follows:


  • 18 Mandatory credits including English, Secondary French Language, Functions, Science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Technology etc.), Canadian history, geography, Arts, Health and Physical training, Civics and Careers, Third language( Mandarin counts 1 credit), Social Science/Humanities, Canadian World research and Business Research etc.


  • 12 Selective credits including Accounting, Business, Classical Research, Theater, Economics, Electronics, ESL, Family Research, Geography, History, International Language Research, Law, Marketing, Music and Visual Arts etc. Selective credits are mainly designed for preparing students decide on their career direction in college and universities. Students can select courses offered by school based on their own interest.


  • Students must pass the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT). Those who fail OSSLT can take Ontario Secondary School Literacy Course (OSSLC) to fulfill the requirement of OSSD.


  • High school graduates are also required to complete 40 hours of community involvement activities.


For those international students, Canada School Board admits graduation Certificate from many countries, but only equivalent to a maximum 23 credits. The rest 7 credits have to be completed in Canada. Students whose native language is not English also need to pass English Proficiency Test such as IELTS, TOEFL to meet Canadian and American university admission requirement.


Oxford Ontario Secondary School Program


Oxford College of Canada provides students with various high school courses based on the curriculum assigned by Ontario Ministry of Education to assist students meet the entrance requirement of post-secondary study in North America. Students who successfully complete all required high school credits will receive OSSD (Students who want to apply for university must complete 6 Grade 12 credits). Our school’s Guidance Counsellor will guide students to select the most suitable university according to their desire and support them to receive a Letter of Acceptance from university.

For those students who have completed a certain degree of high school education and want to transfer to our school, please find a summary of the credits that international students are required to complete as follows (Detailed information will be  provided on the number of credits assessed by school after examination of the transcript provided by students)
